Our storyTea, from the ground floor up

I grew up in Assam, in a home with a tea store on the ground floor. Some of my earliest memories are of new chests being opened — standing close, breathing in fresh leaf that had travelled from the gardens of Upper Assam and the hills of Darjeeling. That is where Absolute Tea began.

Over the years the wooden chests gave way to paper sacks, and the map grew to include Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Meghalaya, with seasonal lots from Kangra and, from the end of this year, the Nilgiris. The cup grew too: beyond the classic trio of chai, orthodox and green, to white, yellow and oolong teas, matcha and natural flavoured blends.

The founderChosen by a Tea Sommelier

I'm Jayant, founder of Absolute Tea. I am a certified Tea Sommelier from the first batch trained by the Tea Board of India at its Darjeeling Tea Research & Development Centre (DTRDC), Kurseong — certified by the Agriculture Skill Council of India, recognised by NCVET. I have since conducted tea events for the Tea Board in Varanasi, Lucknow and Ranchi.

Every season we visit gardens, estates and factories to understand how each tea is made. In our office in Fancy Bazar, Guwahati, every sample is brewed and tasted across several infusions before it earns a place on this site.

Our philosophyTea, like nature, is never the same twice

Tea is a living thing. It changes with every season, every garden and every harvest — and so does our range.

We don't chase a uniform taste year after year; we look for the best of what each season gives.

Most of our unflavoured teas are exactly that: one garden, one harvest, nothing mixed in. When a lot is gone, it is gone, and the next season brings something new. That is what bespoke means to us.
